Senior Teaching Associate in Social Work: Practice Learning Facilitator

Profile

I am a Senior Teaching Associate within the social work team; within this role I am part of the practice learning team and am referred to as a Placement Tutor. This means that I support social work students whilst they are completing both their first and second placements, making sure that there are appropraite learning opportunities, providing advice, ensuring the development on placement and addressing any areas of concern. I also am involved in ensuring students are prepared for placement, and finding and auditing placement settings. This means I work closely with both our social work students and also key individuals within placement providers. Alongside this, I also support practice educators who are both supporting our students on placement, and also those who are completing their training to become a practice educator.

I am a registered and practising social worker, and my background is working with children and families in a family safeguarding team.

Currently, I work with a children's charity to undertake monthly visits to residential children's homes to assess whether the children are safeguarded and their well-being is being promoted, which means I continue to work with children, their families, professionals who support the children and also the regulator.

In addition to this, I am a safeguarding advisor to a board of trustees for a branch of a national charitable organisation who works with families with children who are under 5 years of age.

I am also a Stage 2 practice educator who supports and assesses social work students on placement, and have supported practice educators throughout their training.
