Partnerships

Our Partnerships

Addressing the challenges of soil sustainability requires collaboration. At the Centre for Sustainable Soils, we work with partners across academia, government, industry and civil society to develop innovative, evidence-based approaches to supporting sustainable soils.

Whether you’re looking to collaborate on interdisciplinary research, apply cutting-edge approaches, or advance policy and practice, we are open to working in partnership.

Our Approach to Partnership

We believe the most effective solutions emerge from close collaboration. We seek to support partnerships that are:

Interdisciplinary

Combining soil sciences, engineering, data and modelling, social sciences, and arts and culture.

Impact-driven

Focused on real-world outcomes for people and planet.

Flexible

Tailored to the needs of each partner, providing mutual benefit.

Evidence-based

Grounded in robust research.

Our Key Partnership

UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)

We work in close partnership with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, one of the UK’s leading environmental research organisations.

This collaboration brings together: advanced soil monitoring and long-term datasets; diverse expertise in soil and other environmental sciences; and national-scale environmental modelling capabilities, with the interdisciplinary expertise of Lancaster University.

Together, we:

  • Develop and apply models of soil carbon and nutrient cycling
  • Support national-scale assessments of land use and climate impacts
  • Contribute to UK and international environmental policy

Who We Work With

We collaborate with a wide range of partners, including:

  • Research organisations, such as UKCEH.
  • Inter-governmental organisations, such as the United Nations Environment Programme International Resources Panel.
  • Government departments and agencies, such as Defra and DESNZ.
  • Environmental NGOs
  • Agricultural and land management organisations.
