New Changing Places facility opens in LEC building

The Changing Places Toilet

A new fully accessible Changing Places toilet has opened in the LEC building. The facility has been specially designed to accommodate the needs of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, or with physical disabilities including muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. The space can accommodate users who need extra equipment and space to use toilets safely and comfortably and is accessible using a RADAR Key.

The new facility has been developed in full compliance with Changing Places guidelines to ensure that users’ needs are fully met, and features a height adjustable changing and showering table, a multi-function ceiling hoist, a height adjustable washbasin, a toilet, and an extendable privacy screen. This new facility will enable everyone, regardless of their access needs, disability, or reliance on the assistance of carers or specialist equipment, to use a toilet facility with dignity and hygienically.

The development of this Changing Places facility is in line with Lancaster University's commitment to actively encourage and support people with disabilities to work or learn on campus. The facility is supported by a dedicated cleaning and maintenance team, and is well signposted to via physical signage in the local area, digitally on Mazemap and at Changing Places Toilets (changing-places.org)
