Black History Month event featuring Honorary Research Associate, Sofia Akel.

The Department of History and the Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS) EDI Committee is delighted to present this event as part of Black History Month with our new Honorary Research Associate, Sofia Akel.

Sofia graduated with a degree in History in 2016 and is an award-winning cultural historian, producer, creative consultant, writer, host and lecturer specialising in Black British history.

In this event Sofia will introduce a Black British studies module that she created and taught at a London University: Creativity, Resistance and Joy in the Capital.

Staff and students are warmly invited to learn more about a pedagogy that centres race, community learning and care.

This session is designed to inspire lecturers to reflect on their teaching and to empower students to demand more from their educational experience.
