How LUCA uses your data and applies responsible AI

LUCA has a privacy-first design. Your data is encrypted, kept for a short retention period, and never used to train external AI models.

Privacy first

LUCA follows Lancaster University’s data protection policies. Key points include:

  • No training using your data
Prompts and outputs are not used to train or improve external AI models.
  • Short retention period
Your data is kept for a limited period so that you can return to recent work — it is then automatically deleted.
  • Encryption
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry standard protocols.
  • Role-based access control
Only authorised staff supporting the service have access to system level logs.

Responsible AI

LUCA follows Lancaster’s Responsible AI principles which include:

  • fairness
  • reliability and safety
  • inclusiveness
  • privacy and security
  • transparency
  • accountability
