Using LUCA to strengthen your CVs and cover letters

Before you start

To get the most from LUCA, you may find it helpful to have:

  • A job advert, role description, or an idea of the type of role or sector you are interested in

  • An understanding of the skills or strengths you would like to develop or emphasise (this can include academic work, part-time jobs, volunteering, or extracurricular activities)

You do not need an existing CV or clearly defined experience to get started. LUCA can support users who are building their first CV as well as those refining an existing one, helping translate a wide range of experiences into relevant, transferable skills.

Improving your CV

Writing a cover letter

  1. Describe the role
    Paste a job advert or explain the role you are applying for. LUCA analyses the description to understand what the employer is looking for.
  2. Structured guidance by section
    LUCA breaks a cover letter into key sections - introduction, experience, skills and strengths, alignment with the company, and closing. For each section, it highlights the information you should include, directly relevant to the role and employer.
  3. Action-oriented suggestions
    LUCA recommends strong action words and phrasing to convey your experience and impact effectively.
  4. Personalise your message
    Use LUCA's guidance to craft your own letter in your voice, ensuring a professional, tailored cover letter that reflects both your strengths and the employer's priorities.
