About the conference
This two-day conference will bring together researchers working on statistical learning across language, cognition, and development. It will focus on how learners connect patterns in speech and text with entities, actions, events, relations, and communicative intentions, and on how linguistic and non-linguistic information is integrated in learning.
Statistical learning research has made substantial progress in explaining how learners detect regularities and acquire structure from experience. A central remaining question is how these learned patterns become connected to meaning, and how meaning, in turn, shapes learning and processing.
The conference will provide an opportunity for the statistical learning community to meet between the biennial International Conference on Statistical Learning (IASL) meetings in 2026 and 2028. It will be a smaller, more focused event, with substantial time for discussion and interaction.
The conference is organised by Padraic Monaghan and Patrick Rebuschat at Lancaster University.
