Educators and researchers who created Resources for our Bay, discussing their experience.

Following the success of ‘Resources for our Bay; Place, Sustainability, Environment and Hope’, Morecambe Bay Curriculum is teaming up with Our Future Coast to create a suite of co-designed teaching resources that will support coastal learning around the Bay. This project will support teachers to explore their subject, everyday teaching and how to weave in the themes of sustainability and place. Watch a short video on the last project here.

10 educators from around the Bay with expertise in their area of education will be matched with academics who specialise in research relevant to sustainability, environment (coasts) and place. Between November 2025 and May 2026, pairs will have five days of their time paid to focus on developing teaching resources that link the curriculum to coastal education.

We are looking for educators to create teaching resources in the following areas:

1) Early Years: Understanding the world and exploring Our Future Coast sites with Karen Lloyd

2) Early Years: Coasts and Curiosity with Marina Bazhydai

3) Primary Geography: Geographical skills, Fieldwork and Our Future Coast site working alongside JBA Trust, a charity who specialise in resilience to water cycle and climate risks, communicating complex ideas using hands-on engaging learning resources.

4) Primary History: Coastal Change through the ages with Deborah Sutton

5) Secondary Physical Geography: Nature-based solutions for our coasts, exploring the Our Future Coast sites with Suzana Ilic

6) Secondary Geography: classroom decision-making activity with a broad look at coastal defence across the NW coast with Paul Cureton

7) SEND Geography: Exploring nature based solutions at Our Future Coast site, in order to support SEND provision, this could include health, wellbeing, careers, fieldwork, map skills etc with Andy Folkard

8) Alternative Provision: Exploring coast, environment and sustainability in flexible ways that support development. This could be focused on wellbeing, careers or other skills, working with Mike Stead

  • Each educator will be matched with an academic with subject-specific knowledge connected to your subject.
