The Pentland Centre is holding a seminar on Corporate Biosphere Stewardship. This seminar will outline how corporations might, in conjunction with structural change, behave as biosphere stewards, thereby addressing the challenges of transnational corporations in the Anthropocene.

Eight ‘links in the chain’ will be proposed for this to happen, namely: (1) considering how a cosmopolitan political theory of justice affects the scope of corporate responsibilities and how stewardship obligations might arise from this framing; (2) the translation of just transition policy demands to corporate duties and actions; (3) the use of traceability technologies for corporations to know where in the world they touch down as a pre-cursor to management action; (4) the means by which corporate interactions can be translated in social and ecological impacts and dependencies; (5) the creation of scenarios at differing spatial scales and their impact on corporate and financial institutions risk evaluation strategies; (6) mapping the evolution of moral markets for stewardship where those external to corporations can judge accountability against robust standards; (7) evaluating how voluntary corporate stewardship landscapes are evolving and their potential for systems transformations; and (8) the impacts that benchmarking approaches have on developing norms of corporate behaviour and driving management actions. The seminar will outline these links and invite a conversation around each element and how they can be linked together.

NB: The seminar runs from 14:00-15:00 in LUMS LT 14 (Dormer Lecture Theatre) and on Teams.

All welcome.
