The Pentland Centre is holding a Virtual Common Room with Dr Rafael Savva on the phenomenon of phoenixing from the perspective of sustainability in business.
Phoenixism refers to the phenomenon where a business becomes insolvent and a new one, with the same directors, is created shortly after, often leaving unpaid debts. This Virtual Common Room will examine the phenomenon of phoenixing from the perspective of sustainability in business. After exploring the legalities of phoenixism, the session will focus on the manner in which businesses may practically engage in it, and the potential environmental and/or social impact it may have. Examples will be provided where this practice is commonplace, and the issues it generates. The goal is to identify ideas for future research on the matter, including relevant engagement with third parties.
We welcome staff across Lancaster University to the discussion.
NB: The session runs from 14:00-15:00 on Teams. You can access the Team's meeting at tinyurl.com/VCR-phoenixism.
