A new BBC article quotes Professor Karen Broadhurst (Centre for Child & Family Justice Research and Sociology Department) on where we are now with recurrent care proceedings.

As part of a new pilot, over the next 12 months, accredited journalists will be able to report on cases in Leeds, Carlisle and Cardiff, and it is hoped that this will enable close scrutiny of the actions of local authorities and the courts themselves.

The most senior judge in the Family Division, Sir Andrew McFarlane, said there was "an absence of confidence" in the courts due to a "vacuum of information".

Prof Broadhurst, who has been researching women in recurrrent care proceedings for almost 10 years, says "We know statistics remain stubbornly high. We estimate that one in every four women at least will return to court. And for the very youngest women this will be one in three, which is an incredibly high proportion".
