Event Details

Join The Ruskin for tales under the trees with sixth generation Romani storyteller and woodcarver, Richard O'Neill, in The Storey Gardens.

Throughout history, wooden toys made by craftsmen and used by storytellers have captured the imagination of young and old alike.

Join sixth generation Romani master storyteller and woodcarver, Richard O'Neill, as he brings this magic to the heart of The Storey Gardens. Listen to Richard’s original stories, meet his fabulous characters, find out how he makes the toys, and look out for ‘BOO LOG!’

Look closely, see clearly and imagine freely: as everyday objects become part of fantastical tales, discover an imagination-filled journey through the history of craftsmanship and storytelling.

Richard O’Neill is a multi-award-winning Storyteller and Author. Now living in Lancashire, Richard was raised in a traditional nomadic Romani family in the North, whose history in England stretches back hundreds of years.

Richard believes that storytelling is for everyone. He is a National Literacy Hero, has delivered projects for clients including the British Library, Royal Society of Literature and Imperial War Museum, and his books, ‘a perfect reminder about the power of imagination' (Sunday Times) have won numerous awards in the UK and Aesop medal in the USA.
