Capital Connections - All Career Journeys Can Lead to Success
Posted on

I was fortunate enough to attend the Capital Connections trip to London and was able to spend two days in the capital and talk to various employers. Moreover, I was fortunate enough to run the Lancaster Career’s Instagram for Capital Connections allowing me to give those not on the trip an insight into the trip!
The very first day consisted of visiting the UK Civil Service to learn more about the work of the civil servants for the government. We were with the Government Digital & Data team which gave us more insight on how crucial a role tech plays in the civil service when collecting data and developing policies. I really enjoyed this as I got the opportunity to engage in a research task on a project that was conducted.
Furthermore, to end the first day, we had the opportunity to network with Lancaster University alumni and learn more about different fields and practices and how they found the transition from being a university graduate to a graduate role. This was inspiring because I got to hear many different experiences and different journeys that can lead to success as no journey is the same!!
The second day, the majority of us had the opportunity to visit OC & C Strategy Consultants and learn more about the field of strategy consultancy. It was amazing to hear more about consulting as I’ve always been keen to learn more about the field and get a real insight into consultancy.
To finish off the last day we visited Omnicom Media Group. I found the graphic design roles to be very interesting to learn about in particular and how they operate and work with clients to reach a product that would make both parties happy.
I would like to thank the team for organising this amazing trip as it allowed me to explore different careers and career paths.
Capital Connections was an enriching experience, and I am so glad I was able to participate in my first year of university since it gave me a better idea of what my future goals are. I would recommend anyone who is eligible to participate!
Capital Connections happens during the Easter Vacation period. You can register your interest in attending here - https://lancasteruni.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9QSzwiZfRrLworc
