Military History Consortium Book Talk: John Kegel and Tycho van der Hoog (Netherlands Defence Academy)

Wednesday 15 October

16.00-17.15 BST

15.00-16.15 CEST

Venue: Online

This event is free and open to all.

Join the Miltiary History Consortium (MHC) in a free online event to discuss two new books: John Kege's 'The Struggle for Liberation', which reexamines the Rwandan Civil War and the role of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, and Tycho van der Hoog's 'Comrades Beyond the Cold War', which reveals North Korea’s surprising support for Southern African liberation movements. Together, these books offer new perspectives on the international dimensions of revolutionary politics and military history in Africa.

The event is hosted by MHC Co-Directors Anna La Grange (University of Potsdam) and Dr Mariella Terzolli (Sciences Po, Centre for History (Paris)).

The Military History Consortium (MHC) connects institutions, academics, and students engaged in the study of warfare and/or military organisations in the past. Its dual aim is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas in order to strengthen international research co-operation and a framework for joint teaching initiatives and programmes. The MHC’s membership is international, and its scope is global. While the consortium’s teaching and research agendas focus on the past, it seeks to address contemporary security challenges and inform related policy debates. It is only the study of war and the military in the past that enables us to understand and contextualise the present and thus prepare for the future.
