Early career researchers from across the world gathered at Lancaster recently for Theatres of War: The British Commission for Military History's New Researchers' Conference.

An annual fixture sharing the latest emerging scholarship in military history, the conference is generously supported by the British Commission for Military History, and was this year hosted by the Centre for War and Diplomacy at Lancaster, 8-9 November 2019.

Over seventy postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers presented their research on military history, broadly defined, with topics covering the ancient world to the modern day across Europe, America, and Asia.

The keynote lecture was presented at Lancaster Priory to delegates, Lancaster undergraduates and members of the public by Professor John Gillingham FBA (LSE), on 'War and the Enslavement of the Enemy's Women: From the Iliad to Islamic State'.
