Lancaster University’s annual Positive Change Week once again brought staff, students and partners together for a series of events celebrating sustainability, community and collective action.

Across the week, activities were linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the many ways our University community is contributing to global challenges.

Highlights from the Week

  • Sustainability in Research Forum – Led by Dr Seth Robinson and the Reimagining Research Practices team, this session explored how researchers can embed environmental sustainability into their work. Overall, there were 6 different academic speakers from across the University, showcasing their work.
  • Rewild Campus – Volunteers helped remove invasive Rhododendron to support woodland regeneration and improve biodiversity across campus.
  • ReStore “Fill a Bag” Event – Staff and students picked up pre‑loved clothing while raising funds for St John’s Hospice, promoting circular fashion and community support.
  • People and Oceans Event – The Pentland Centre hosted a celebration of coastal environments, including a screening of A Future Archive, a film created with the Morecambe community.
  • Library activities – A popular book exchange and a curated sustainability collection encouraged reuse and inspired further learning.
  • Foodbank collection – The Conferences and Events team ran a foodbank collection for Morecambe Bay Foodbank and managed to collect 4 large boxes of donations.

Positive Change Week once again demonstrated how powerful collective action can be when our community comes together with purpose. From hands‑on conservation work to thought‑provoking discussions, creative collaborations and acts of generosity, the week highlighted the many ways staff, students and partners are already driving meaningful change.
