All members of staff at Lancaster University are members of one of the nine Colleges (though you can change your affiliation later if you find one that you'd prefer to be part of). There are numerous ways in which you can get involved. If you are interested in finding out more about staff events within the College or are interested in volunteering, do get in touch with the College Manager.
Senior members
All members of staff also become members of a college, and we care about giving these members an opportunity to enjoy the same friendly and supportive atmosphere that we provide to students.
College Teams Group
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the College as a Senior Member. To find out more information about these opportunities, be on the lookout for our monthly Staff Newsletter. More regular information is shared in our SCR Teams group, which we invite staff to join via the link in the newsletter.
Staff quiz
Each academic year in Lent term, senior members from the nine colleges take part in an intercollegiate quiz competition held during lunchtimes at venues across campus. The format is very much 'pub quiz,' and all abilities are welcome. If you'd like to take part, do let us know, and we will add you to our college team. Whether you're a trivia buff or just in it for the fun, this is a great way to meet other staff across departments who are also part of the College. Expect just under an hour of friendly competition, laughter, and the chance to show off those random facts you've been saving for the right moment!
College Syndicate
Every year at the beginning of March, we hold our annual senior general body meeting known as the College Syndicate. At this meeting, we discuss any pertinent College business to raise with the University, discuss what's going on in the College, and look to understand how we can increase engagement among students and staff. Every member of staff is able to come and find out what has been going on in the College.
Join us on Graduation Day
Graduation Day is one of the key events of the year as we see our students off in style. The University encourages staff members to sit on the stage for the ceremony and will send out details about hiring robes (at no cost to you) in advance. Registration opens during the Summer term, and details can be found on the graduation webpage. Information about the College celebrations will be circulated to staff and students nearer the time.
Get involved!
Aside from the informal opportunities, we occasionally recruit for more formal roles within the college team for those who want to take on something else besides their main employment within the University. The Principal, Dean, Senior Advisor and College Advisory Team are all honorary roles within the College. Keep an eye on the Teams group for upcoming opportunities within Fylde and any of the other colleges.
