Newly elected Mayor of Lancaster Councillor Malcolm Thomas has chosen to continue the work of his predecessor Councillor David Whitaker by selecting Defying Dementia as one of his Mayoral charities for the upcoming year.

Elected in a virtual meeting of Council last month Councillor Thomas has pledged his support to the Defying Dementia Campaign and is currently in the process of organising a number of fundraising events to help increase awareness and support for the campaign in the local area. These events will take place virtually at first, but will resume across the Lancaster community when it is safe to do so.

Upon his election Councillor Thomas stated “As Mayor of this city I will do all in my power to support the many causes which are proving to be so important to the district in helping us all through this crisis and building towards better times in the future.”

Alongside the Defying Dementia Campaign, Councillor Thomas will also be raising funds for the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Councillor Whitaker for all of his fundraising efforts in the last year. His work across the twelve months including the organisation of a charity wine tasting evening and quiz night really helped to grow the profile of the Defying Dementia Campaign across the local area in the build up to our fifth anniversary.

We are looking forward to another year of working closely with the Mayor of Lancaster and hosting a number of exciting fundraising events. For more information about these events, please follow the Defying Dementia Facebook page.
