Lancaster University Library signs up to the Green Libraries Manifesto
The Library is proud to announce that it has become a signatory of the Green Libraries Manifesto.
The Manifesto is the primary sustainability commitment for libraries in the UK. It’s hosted by CILIP in partnership with Arts Council England, the British Library, Libraries Connected and Julie’s Bicycle. The manifesto features the following pledges:
- Bring environmental sustainability to the heart of decision-making
- Innovate and evolve
- Work with our communities
- Use our voice for more impact
- Work in partnership
- Grow and share our knowledge
- Support young people

Tim Leonard, Associate Director: Space, Experience and Innovation at the Library said “We’re excited to sign the Green Libraries Manifesto. The Library has undertaken a range of sustainability focused initiatives over the last few years. We’ve become more deeply involved with sustainability governance and networks at the University and have worked with our Facilities team to ensure our building operates in a more energy-efficient manner. We’ve also curated and highlighted sustainability-focused resources from our collections. Signing the Manifesto reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and will help us to plan future work”.
Green Libraries Week takes place from Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November 2025. You’ll find a range of sustainability-focused books on display on the ground floor of the Library and you can explore a range of sustainability-focused online resources via our Subject Guides.
The Library is particularly keen to work in partnership with our communities around sustainability. Explore the work we’ve undertaken so far, and contact the Library if you’ve got an idea for how you could partner with us in future.
