New Graphic Novel Collection on C Floor!

Library book shelves displaying comics and graphic novels

Our new Graphic Novel collection is now on display and available to browse and borrow on C Floor of the Library (you can browse what’s available on Onesearch, in our Digital Collections) – please come and check it out (and why not check out a book while you’re here) the next time you are in the Library!Close up of graphic novel shelves

Following conversations with our community, and the engagement events run with Ines G. Labarta in Creative Writing, we wanted to make it easier to discover and explore this brilliant medium. We hope it will support not only our students in the School of Arts who are studying graphic novels, but also all the rest of our graphic novel enthusiasts: whether it’s graphic medicine, caped crusaders, iconic manga or historic gems, there’s hopefully something for everyone, with more new titles due to arrive soon! We’d also love your requests for things you’d like to see in the collection.Close up of graphic novel shelves

To accompany these exciting developments, we ran a competition in June, open to students, staff and the local community to commission an artist to create a mural that would accompany the collection. The selection panel were hugely impressed by all the creativity and talent on display from our shortlisted entries, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who entered for sharing this with us.

We are delighted to announce that 2nd year Lancaster student Alice Kay-Wood was our worthy winner, hitting all the notes from our brief and creating something that beautifully represents the new collection. Congratulations Alice - your entry was quackin’ amazing!

We are really looking forward to unveiling Alice’s wonderful mural for all to see at an official launch event for the collection in autumn term – watch this space…
