Library Services Advisors

The Library Services Advisor team delivers frontline support to our academic community in-person and online. Offering a welcoming presence at the Library throughout the day and evening, we maintain the building as an inclusive and excellent learning environment and help students navigate our collections, find resources, and provide access to a range of equipment to aid learning. Alongside our in-person work, the team also runs the Library chat service, offering the same high-quality support to those accessing the Library online. As the first point of contact, we triage queries and connect students to specialist Library services to ensure students get the appropriate level of support. The LSA team also runs regular wellbeing events during term time, giving students a chance to take a pause from their studies, relax, and enjoy a brew and a chat. And if you follow the Library on social media, you’ve probably seen posts created by the team showcasing the wide range of activities happening in the Library, our fantastic building, and our award‑winning services.

Learning Development

We provide outstanding academic support to students at all levels and across all disciplines in making the transition to the culture, practices and language of effective university study. We teach, mentor, coach and advise in a range of contexts to enable students to develop as effective, independent and critical learners in Higher Education. We are embedded in academic courses teaching bespoke academic writing sessions, we work closely with students in 1:1s and we also employ students as academic writing mentors, English language assistants and maths and stats tutors. We have developed a range of online resources to help you develop your academic skills including understanding approaches to assessments and making sense of feedback. These in-person and online activities provide opportunities for students to develop and enhance their own learning.

Library Teaching and Engagement Team

Our Faculty Librarians support students to access and effectively use the wide range of resources provided by the Library. They offer guidance and teaching sessions on topics such as using specialist databases, systematic literature searching, referencing and referencing management tools. They provide a comprehensive collection of online subject guides and can also help you access additional resources outside of your studies such as our Box of Broadcasts, Digital maps and Graphic Novel collections.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is a digital learning platform that covers everything from learning Japanese to coding with R, and everything in between. It compliments other forms of learning, allowing students to gain skills and certificates that they wouldn’t necessarily get in their chosen subject area e.g. a history student getting a Python qualification.

It’s available to all students and staff through the Library and completed certificates can be connected through onto your LinkedIn profile allowing potential employers and collaborators to see how you have enhanced your learning beyond your degree.
