February is LGBTQ+ History Month

Lancaster University, in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Forum and Lancaster University LGBT+ Staff Network have coordinated a series of activities and resources to recognise and celebrate LGBT+ History Month, including:

· ‘Behind the Lens’ display – Library Stairwell (A Floor) 7th – 28th February

· LGBT+ History Month book display curated in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Forum – Library A Floor 7th – 28th February

· LGBT+ History Month film screening – Thursday 9th February at 6pm. Place your vote from the shortlist selected in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Forum and LGBT+ Staff Network from 1st February on Lancaster University Library Instagram.

Lancaster University Reads...

To recognise Holocaust Memorial Day at Lancaster University Library on Friday 27th January, we are making Lily’s Promise by Lily Ebert available as an ebook and audiobook through the Libby app.

Lily’s Promise is a memoir of Lily Ebert’s experiences during the Holocaust. This title is available to all with no limit on numbers of borrowers from 23rd Jan to 12th of Feb. We will be hosting a virtual book club to facilitate discussion about the book through the Library's Instagram account.

Library and Information Literacy Programme workshops

The Library and Information Literacy Programme is designed to help students, researchers and staff to learn information literacy skills, develop a critical approach to dealing with information and to make the best use of the physical and digital library. Book onto a workshop.

What's on in the Library March 2023

Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day 2023 in the Library

We are very excited to announce that, this year, for Women's History Month and International Women's Day, we are planning a wide range of events and displays in collaboration with groups both on campus and beyond into the city too.

13th of March: 'Striking Women: narratives from the past, present and future' - 5:30pm - 8:30pm, Monday, March 13 - An informative and interactive Women's History Month event reflecting on narratives from the past and present and also considering the future.

Misogyny across sectors - 5:30pm - 8:00pm, Tuesday, March 21 - A panel discussion in Women + History Month aiming to empower women+ through the discussion of their achievements in their respective fields and, the discussion of any barriers they had to overcome as a result of being a women+ in their role.

Lancaster University Mending Station Session - 2:00pm - 5:00pm, Wednesday, March 8 - The Library is hosting a series of Mending Station events in partnership with Sewing Café Lancaster!

Systematic Review Conversations - Decolonising of Grey Literature - 1:00pm - 2:00pm, Thursday, March 9 - Lancaster has students and researchers working with projects in Africa, India, Malaysia and ASEAN countries, and the Library needed to identify resources and guidance that added a 'Decolonised' approach to Grey Literature searching, especially when supporting increases in Qualitative Systematic Reviews.

Digital Humanities forum - 3:30pm - 5:00pm, Tuesday, March 14 - The Lancaster Digital Humanities forums are a series of informal, in-person presentations on DH work taking place at Lancaster or nearby.

Researcher Development Pathway: Introduction to Research Data Management with SAFEPOD Tour - 3:00pm - 5:00pm, Wednesday, March 15 - Do you handle data as part of your research projects? This 90mins session will give you an overview of everything you need to consider in the area of Research Data Management.

Lancaster University Mending Station Session - Wednesday, May 3, 2:00pm - 5:00pm

The Library is hosting a series of Mending Station events in partnership with Sewing Café Lancaster! Join us for our next mending session in the Library Exhibition and Events Space (located behind the plant wall on A Floor).

An introduction to geospatial tools for humanities research: Using StoryMaps - Thursday, May 4, 10:00am - 12:00pm

An introduction to using StoryMaps, a geospatial tool for humanities research. This event is open to all staff and students from any discipline.

Digital Humanities forum - Tuesday, May 16, 3:30pm - 5:00pm

The Lancaster Digital Humanities forums are a series of informal, in-person presentations on Digital Humanities work taking place at Lancaster or nearby. The format is similar to a conference session with three or four speakers talking for 15-20 minutes each with time for questions and discussion. The forums are aimed at interested staff and postgraduate students (PhD and Master's) from any department. Undergraduate students are also welcome to attend.

Systematic Review Conversations - Rapid Reviews for Policymakers - Thursday, May 18, 1:00pm - 2:00pm

This presentation will discuss an approach we developed in our work with the Scottish Government’s Review of maternity and neonatal services to produce collaborative, targeted and efficient evidence reviews. Key to this was agreeing on a framework to structure the analysis and close collaboration between policymakers, healthcare professionals and service users.

Lancaster University Library Virtual book club

Our next book club book is…. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro! Never let me go takes place in a dystopian version of late 1990s England, where the lives of ordinary citizens are prolonged through a state-sanctioned program of human cloning. This June marks Gypsy, Roma, Traveller History Month, Pride Month and Refugee Week. We hope you can join us at the library as we celebrate and commemorate these occasions.

Upcoming events

Craft Club with Queer by Gum- Thursday, June 1, 5:00pm - 8:00pm - As part of Lancaster University Library’s celebrations for PRIDE this year, we are holding a ‘Craft Club’ event in collaboration with Queer by Gum.

Gypsy, Roma & Travellers History Month event - Monday 5th of June, 7 – 10pm - We will kick off Lancaster University Library's celebration of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month with an evening of films and stimulating discussion. We will have two guest speakers for the evening.

Lancaster University Mending Station - Thursday, June 1, 1:00pm - 2:00pm - The Library is hosting Mending Stations in partnership with Sewing Café Lancaster! Join us for the last mending session of the academic year in the Library Exhibition and Events Space (located behind the plant wall on A Floor).

A core part of publication ethics is that when published research is affected by errors or misconduct, this must be corrected. This webinar aims to explain both the process of fixing errors and misconceptions about corrections, focusing on journal articles.
