The Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies (PRESS) framework is a powerful tool for improving the quality and transparency of systematic review searches. This session introduces PRESS and shows how it can enhance the credibility of search strategies. The interactive workshop will give participants hands-on experience reviewing and refining searches using the PRESS checklist.
Presenters: Cheryl Francis and Elaine Andrew, University of Sunderland
Cheryl Francis is the Librarian for the Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Sunderland. Cheryl has more than 25 years of experience in libraries and information services, working in various sectors, including public libraries, the NHS, charitable organisations and higher education. She is a Chartered Member of CILIP and actively contributes as part of the Health Libraries Group Committee CILIP SIG. In addition to earning Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) status in 2013, she joined Federation for Informatics Professionals in Health and Social Care (FEDIP) as an advanced practitioner in 2024. Cheryl is part of the RLUK-ARMA Research Catalyst Cohort for 2025/6.
Elaine Andrew is the Librarian for the School of Nursing & Health Sciences at the University of Sunderland. She has been in this role since 2018 and previously worked in a variety roles in the library at Northumbria University.
