A panel of staff and students discuss acclaimed children's novel Tyger with the author SF Said, co-sponsored by Lancaster Litfest and FASS Decolonisation.

In a 21st Century London, where the British Empire still holds sway, a young boy called Adam meets a mythical animal – a Tyger.

Tyger by S.F. Said has been called an ‘out and out masterpiece’ and won Foyles’ Children’s Book of the Year. In this two-part event, we will ‘meet the book’ as curious readers, then ‘meet the author’ as S.F. Said comes to campus.

Meet the Book’. We’ll hear short personal responses from specially invited staff and students to Tyger, before dipping in ourselves. We’ll be looking at an extract as readers, spotting the delights, the difficulties, the patterns and connections that emerge organically. No specialist English Literature knowledge is required; we will not assume that you have read the book (though you are welcome to do so, if you wish!).

Meet the Author’. S.F. Said is a powerhouse in children’s literature, and the award-winning author of the critically acclaimed and beloved Varjak Paw novels and Phoenix. He is the Writer-in-Residence at ‘BookTrust’ and is also an active campaigner for the rights of child readers and those that support them. Join S.F. as he reads from and talks about the process of crafting this incredible book, his collaboration with illustrator Dave Mckean and the adventure Adam and Zadie are caught up in.

You are welcome to attend both halves of the event, or just one, with your ticket.
