Jobs

Throughout 2023-25, LUCC will be recruiting for several paid internships for Lancaster University students with an interest in, or skills related to, China (eg research interest, or language skills). Please contact china.centre@lancaster.ac.uk to find out if an internship may be suitable for you.

Visiting Scholars

The Lancaster University China Centre welcomes applications from academic staff members at other universities or tertiary institutions who wish to spend a period of up to 12 months at Lancaster to engage in China-related research.

Priority will be given to applicants who plan to collaborate with staff at LU, especially with Fellows of LUCC. The relevant member of staff should be named in the application form, and they should have agreed to the collaboration.

The standard "bench fee" is £50 per week, self-funded scholars are eligible for a reduced rate.

There are no tuition fees, as Visiting Scholars conduct their independent research, and are not entitled to any supervision or tuition. As a Visiting Scholar, you may apply to audit classes at the university, though permission is required from the relevant module co-ordinator(s). Visiting Researchers are responsible for sourcing their accommodation for the period of their visit.

We expect applicants to hold a PhD. Publications in peer-reviewed international journals are desirable. We regret that for reasons of space we cannot accept all applications.

As well as having the opportunity to discuss their research informally with members of the China Centre, Visiting Scholars enjoy the following benefits:

  • access to LUCC’s unique Visiting Scholar facilitation and academic introduction services university-wide
  • preferential access to research events held by the China Centre
  • @lancaster.ac.uk email address for the duration of the visit
  • full internet access and lending rights to the University Library
  • full access to online journal content provided by the University Library
  • option of access to a desk and locker in the Visiting Researchers’ Room in the Confucius Institute

Please note:

  • Visiting Scholars are not entitled to any formal supervision or teaching
  • Visiting Scholars are responsible for sourcing their own accommodation for the period of their visit
  • Lancaster University’s policy on visiting and honorary staff.

To apply, please complete a visiting researcher application form and send it with your research proposal and CV to: china.centre@lancaster.ac.uk
