Educational Development

Teaching development programmes and qualifications

There are a range of teaching development programmes available suiting a range of staff who teach and/or support learning depending on their prior experience and current role. These programmes are designed to sit alongside your teaching practice. They encourage you to draw on insights and understanding from your colleagues, your students and research into teaching and learning in order for you to critically reflect on and improve your teaching.

Programmes are also accredited against the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UKPSF), meaning they lead to formal professional recognition for teaching.

Continuing professional development events and workshops

Are you interested to learn about what really works in practice? We coordinate a portfolio of events and masterclasses tailored to support colleagues to share and learn from one another. Events explore a variety of topics throughout the academic year.

These include lectures by leading educators and researchers, thematic sector insight seminars, and conference-style events that provide a platform for sharing and hearing about effective teaching, learning, assessment and curriculum practices at Lancaster and its strategic teaching partners.

Curriculum design and development support

Effective curriculum design and development lies at the heart of a positive experience for our students. In your role you may be required to develop modules and programmes of study, or redevelop those that you have inherited. The Educational Development team offers advisory support in relation to pedagogic considerations for curriculum design.

This service is focused on supporting programme teams in devising pedagogically sound course design proposals for formal approval and re-approvals. Educational Developers are also available to offer input into periodic departmental Strategic Teaching and Learning Review processes.
