Geography, Engineering and Mathematics continue to dominate the university league tables with their top 10 UK rankings further cemented in the 2017 Guardian University Guide.

Mechanical Engineering is ranked 2nd in the UK and is top for career prospects, with 100% of graduates going into work or further study within 6 months. Also in the top 10, in 6th place, is Chemical Engineering, whose students are 100% satisfied overall, as rated in the National Student Survey 2015.

Professor Claudio Paoloni, Head of the Engineering Department said: “It is very rewarding seeing Mechanical Engineering ranked in 2nd place and Chemical Engineering in 6th place in the 2017 Guardian League tables. This outstanding achievement fully reflects our commitment to placing our students at the centre of the learning experience. The unique atmosphere in the new Engineering Building fosters a full immersion of our students in a stimulating environment where high quality teaching and world-class research blends.

Mathematics is ranked in 6th place with strong graduate career prospects. 90% of their students go on to graduate level work or further study within 6 months. Professor Andrey Lazarev, Head of Department has praised the commitment of staff. He said: “I am extremely pleased with Lancaster Mathematics having placed 6th in the 2017 Guardian League Table; this is a significant improvement over the corresponding result last year and confirms our place firmly within the top ten mathematics departments in the UK. This result reflects the dedication of the departmental academic and support staff working together to deliver the best quality teaching to our students.”

Another success for the Faculty is in Geography and Environmental Studies. Ranked in 5th place, this successive top 10 placing firmly establishes Lancaster University as one of the best places to study these subjects.

Lancaster University has risen two places to be ranked 8th. The Guardian league table combines scores for the aspects of university life that matter most to students. Lancaster’s score has risen for overall satisfaction, teaching satisfaction, assessment and careers.
