Sustainability updates: Morecambe Bay, medicine and learnings from the Library

Lancaster Medical School rated A
The University is proud to announce that the Lancaster Medical School is sixth in the table of UK Medical Schools in the 2025 Planetary Health Report Card. The Planetary Health Report Card is a metric-based tool for evaluating and improving planetary health content in health professional schools. Scoring As in both Planetary Health Curriculum and Interdisciplinary Research, Medicine at Lancaster has proven once again its commitment to a sustainable future in healthcare.
Morecambe Bay Curriculum
Local MP’s think the Morecambe Bay Curriculum (MBC) movement has a part to play in embedding sustainability and placing it into education. The release of the Department for Education’s interim review, indicates an appetite for the work educators around Morecambe Bay have been doing in this space since 2019. Encourage the educators you know to join the movement and come along to the MBC Conference at the University on Friday 4 July from 12-5pm where the focus will be on developing Climate Action Plans that celebrate people and place.

Lancaster sustainable Library
As part of their 2025 vision, the University Library has explored the ways in which they can play their part in the University’s journey to Net Zero. From hosting sustainable events, to working on making the building more efficient. Find out more about how the Library is tackling sustainability on their story from the Stories from our Vision webpage. The page features an episode of the Library podcast ‘Talking Around the Library Tree,’ featuring Head of Sustainability Dr Georgiana Allison in conversation with library staff.
Don’t ditch it. Donate it.
This year’s Don’t Ditch It project has started and the University is collecting unwanted items that students can donate as they leave their student accommodation. These items, including clothing, kitchenware, books, and more are then redistributed to local and national charities or resold at a large discount to incoming students, preventing them from ending up in landfill. Find out more about the project on the Don’t ditch it. Donate it webpage.
