The Educational Research Department was delighted to welcome Rachael Gibbon, Joe Lord and Catherine Shiel to campus for their graduation on December 11th 2019. They are some of the first graduates from the Department’s innovative online MA in Education and Social Justice that started in October 2017.

Catherine reflected that: “The course gave me the opportunity to reflect critically on how I can contribute to research and knowledge, particularly in my field of Further Education. Having developed my knowledge and skills in research and writing it has given me the confidence to present my reflections on practice and I will continue to explore opportunities to engage in research and continue to contribute to knowledge, potentially through PhD study.“

Dr Sue Cranmer (MA programme director) commented that “We are absolutely delighted to see our first cohort of students graduate with their MAs. We have been impressed by the quality of the work produced and the commitment shown by students to their studies whilst managing the competing demands of their professions and lives. We are very pleased that we can provide the support needed for students to achieve these excellent results”.

The next start date for the MA in Education and Social Justice programme is October 1st 2020 and applications are now open. This online programme can be studied full-time or part-time. An MA pass, on this programme, with a Merit or above will guarantee a place on the Education and Social Justice PhD programme.
