Event Details

Jacob Polley, one of the best poets currently writing in English, appearing in Lancaster the week his new book is published.

Jacob Polley was born and grew up in Cumbria. He has published four books of poems with Picador, winning the 2016 T. S. Eliot Prize for his fourth, Jackself, which was described by the judges as ‘a firework of a book; inventive, exciting and outstanding in its imaginative range and depth of feeling.’ His fifth book of poems, Material Properties, is due out the week of his reading in Lancaster! A poet of the uncanny and the startlingly lyrical, Polley’s work explores his rural upbringing, the forces of tradition and history, and the power of speech as it approaches song.
