Event Details

Join the Green Lancaster team on an ECOWild practical field trip to Cumbria and discover some spectacular coastal environments in Morecambe Bay.

As part of this field excursion, we will join Community Engagement Officer Yolanda Aze and Trainee Megan Jones from The Bay: a Blueprint for Recovery. The Bay project is a partnership between Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and the Eden Project that aims to help people immerse themselves in various activities including guided walks, rock pooling, beach cleans, and art to reconnect with nature and improve their wellbeing.

We will spend the day at Humphrey Head, a fantastic grassy headland from which you get amazing panoramic views of the whole of Morecambe Bay. The day will be based around the sun and tides. We will make a sundial and a tideclock, discuss navigation techniques and tides, and create a collaborative poem. We will also carry out a pollinator survey and take time to record wildlife using iNaturalist.

All volunteers joining this field trip will need to bring suitable outdoor clothing (warm and waterproof clothing and/or sun protective clothing), sturdy footwear such as hiking boots, as well as a packed lunch and warm/cold drink. It will be possible to borrow equipment from Green Lancaster if necessary.

Please note this activity requires a reasonable level of fitness due to the terrain, planned activities and walking distance to the work site. Please contact the Green Lancaster team on green@lancaster.ac.uk if you have any questions related to accessibility requirements.

Full details will be circulated by e-mail to all registered volunteers during the week commencing 20th June.

Our ECOWild field trips are a real opportunity and privilege to experience the great outdoors and contribute to significant projects across the country that tackle the climate and ecological emergencies. If you have booked a place but are no longer able to attend, please cancel your ticket to enable someone else to benefit from this opportunity. These trips are popular: fully booked with people on a waiting list. We want as many of you to be able to benefit from them, please help us do so. Thank you.
