Represent Lancaster on University Challenge 2026

University Challenge is renowned for being TV's toughest quiz team tournament. Airing on BBC Two, students from across the UK face the most fiendish of general knowledge tests, and the Students' Union is now looking for our best and brightest students to represent Lancaster in this prestigious tournament.
Last year, our successful team reached the televised show for the first time since 2019 with students from Furness and Pendle Colleges taking to our screens against the University of Lincoln. Could you get your college represented on next year’s series?
The selection process will start with individual entry tests. All students are welcome and encouraged to apply from first-year undergraduate to postgraduate researchers. We particularly welcome participation from women+ and students from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, who are typically underrepresented in the competition.
There will be four selection tests on offer covering different specialist areas. They are:
· Wednesday 5th November 18:00, Great Hall: Arts & Cultures
· Wednesday 5th November 18:45, Great Hall: Maths & Technology
· Thursday 6th November 18:00, Great Hall: History & Geography
· Thursday 6th November 18:45, Great Hall: Biological & Medical Sciences
You can choose to sit as many tests as you like at the relevant time slots. Regretfully, we are unable to offer alternative time slots to sit the entry tests. The tests will comprise 40 written questions to be answered in 20 minutes under exam conditions.
The top two scoring individuals from each test paper will be invited to compete in a live on-the-buzzer general knowledge final on Thursday 13 November. In the event of a tie for the top two spaces, the scores from other test papers will be considered. It is, therefore, advantageous to attempt more than one test paper.
Entering the competition is designed to be a fun, personal challenge. All students are encouraged to give it a try and see how you perform - you might just surprise yourself!
To register your place in the competition and get involved, please complete this short registration form.
