PROJECT

Modern buildings are equipped with a number of automation systems dedicated to specific tasks. For example, buildings may be equipped with a heating control system, a lighting control system, a physical access control system and a fire alarm system. These individual control systems are good at fulfilling their intended task but are too limited in functionality to implement more complex automation. This project investigated opportunities to develop smarter, cheaper and more efficient systems and methods to address energy use, reduce cost and change the way in which we manage our building systems. A “Meta-Controller”, which integrate existing building automation systems and allow complex automation tasks, was developed, implemented and trialled.
