Our community of researchers transform lives and communities, changing practice and thinking across the globe.

Our projects have developed a thriving ecosystem of interdisciplinary research bringing together experts from different disciplines to address regional, national and global challenges. We welcome and encourage collaboration and encourage interested researchers across all our thematic areas to reach out and connect with us.

  • Eco-I North West

    A £14m research and innovation project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which supported low carbon business innovations across the region.

  • RECIRCULATE

    £7M project funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund that delivered innovative solutions to pressing problems with water use and safety through new partnership-based approaches that developed durable, equitable partnerships between African and UK researchers.

  • ACTUATE

    Funded by Global Challenges Research Fund, ACTUATE developed anaerobic digestion demonstrator systems in Ghana and Nigeria to deliver electricity, sanitation improvements and sustainable fertilizer for crops.

  • Rurban Revolution

    A 2-year Global Food Security Programme funded project focused on the transformative power of urban farming on the health, sustainability and resilience of our food system.

  • Soil-Value

    A 5-year EPSRC funded fellowship focused on understanding the delivery of soil food, water and carbon services across the UK, their resilience to climate change and future land use drivers, and how to enhance these services.

  • Cropbooster-P

    A Horizon 2020 project that brought together plant scientists, food system researchers and stakeholders to identify the priorities and opportunities for improving the sustainability, productivity and nutritional quality of our EU food system by improving crops.
