A more sustainable library

A more sustainable library

We're introducing a new energy-efficient approach to the way the Library building operates during our 24-7 opening hours.

Ventilation will be adjusted on C floor of the Library building between 11pm and 8am. All other areas of the library will be unaffected.

By making these changes we aim to save 53,000kg of carbon per year – this is equivalent to charging the average smartphone over 12 million times or flying over 54,000km!

We’ll be monitoring the impact of these changes and ensuring that comfort and air quality are unaffected.

This approach is part of Lancaster’s sector-leading approach to sustainability. Sustainability and positive change are at the heart of our Estates Strategy, and the Library has set out its own commitment to sustainability across its operations and activities.

Feedback on the new approach is welcomed via library@lancaster.ac.uk.
