LUMS Hosts Second Annual Case Competition

On Friday, 24 February 2023, LUMS hosted its second annual Case Competition, organised and hosted by LUMS Careers.
Building from last year’s inaugural competition, this year’s competition saw 60 undergraduate and postgraduate students putting their skills to the test, coming out of their shells, and exploring new opportunities and areas of interest.
The LUMS Case Competition required students to apply their theoretical knowledge to provide a solution to a “real-life” problem.
On competition day, teams of four to five people had the challenge of examining a market entry case, coming up with a solution, and preparing a ten-minute presentation in one hour.
The teams were invited to present their pitches to the competition’s panel of judges. There was time given for the judges to ask questions about the teams’ strategies and for the teams to respond.
The day convened with a networking session where students were able to talk with each other and members of the LUMS Careers team about the day.
A plenary session and award ceremony followed the networking session with a welcome from Rory Daly, Head of LUMS Careers, and feedback from the judges.
Keith Williams, CEO of Periphas, delivered an interactive keynote. Keith encouraged the students attending to think more deeply about their careers and interests in consulting. He discussed how people explore what areas of consultancy they’re interested in and where they go to find out if a company is the right fit for them.
Two students were recognised as Best Presenters: Sophie Dollinger and Nicolae Popescu. Barbara Vedri Almenar, Lola Alonso-Lamberti, James Tunnadine, and Theo Fry of “the volleyball team” were awarded with the “Top Performing Team” Award and crowned the overall winners of the LUMS Case Competition 2023.

Rory Daly, Head of LUMS Careers, said “It was a pleasure to see how positively the students engaged with the demanding requirements of the competition and delivered interesting, relevant, and effective solutions to the challenge we had set them.”
LUMS Careers offers a range of events, resources, tools and e-guides to support students who are interested in case competition/challenges, problem-solving skills, and consulting as a potential career path.
