Launch of new open-access journal Studies in Technology Enhanced Learning

A new open-access journal that focuses on the technology enhanced learning research field was launched on 9 November 2020, with involvement from many members of the Department.
Studies in Technology Enhanced Learning is a peer-reviewed, online journal edited by department members Brett Bligh and Kyungmee Lee. It will publish works of empirical investigation, critical commentary, and scholarly review in technology enhanced learning (TEL) research. The journal aims to provide a lively forum for debate and reflection on a wide range of issues connected with TEL in disparate settings.
The journal is inaugurated with a Special Issue entitled Debating the status of ‘theory’ in technology enhanced learning research, also edited by Bligh and Lee. The issue features 11 full-length articles, five short commentaries and two editorials, one of which sets out the vision for the journal. The issue of ‘theory’ has long been contentious in the TEL field, and the Special Issue presents a range of articles that deal with the topic under four thematic headings.
Many members of the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning have been involved in developing the issue—whether by writing articles, peer-reviewing submissions, or discussing the direction of the journal. Further special issues are planned over the coming period, involving a range of Centre members acting in editorial roles.
A Departmental Seminar will be held on Zoom to discuss the new initiative on Wednesday 18 November from 12.30-14.00. Bligh and Lee will provide an overview, and several authors who contributed articles to the first issue will also offer their perspectives.
