The Department of Educational Research is a truly international department as we:

  • have an international staff;
  • work with students internationally;
  • are involved in international research;
  • work with agencies and institutions across the world.

International Collaboration

We are involved internationally

  • giving invited lectures (sometimes in languages other than English);
  • as members of international conference scientific committees;
  • peer reviewing for international scholarly journals;
  • publishing articles in languages other than English;
  • undertaking international postgraduate research training;
  • collaborating with universities and institutions internationally;
  • working with industries internationally for research purposes;
  • hosting events for international delegates;
  • working with international stakeholder groups and non-governmental organisations.

Members of our Department work widely with other academics, institutions and groups across the world.

Examples of collaborations from the period September 2021 to January 2023 are given below. Members of the Department:

  • Gave 21 invited international lectures
  • Were members of 5 international conference scientific committees
  • Provided international postgraduate research training through a PhD summer school; a support event on bid writing; and via an academic’s Lancaster Xerte and other doctoral resources

Reputation

Members of our Department are frequently invited to collaborate in diverse ways with others across the world.

Examples of collaborations from the period September 2021 to January 2023 are given below. Members of the Department:

  • Chaired 2 international conferences
  • Gave 9 invited international keynote talks, 2 invited seminars, and 1 keynote panel
  • Authored 15 joint research papers with international authors (and had one book translated into Turkish)
  • Refereed international grant proposals for national research groups in Switzerland and South Africa
  • Worked with government departments beyond the UK in Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, and Zimbabwe
  • Produced reports for 5 international agencies, bodies and companies
  • Acted as members of 3 official national-level collaborative networks beyond the UK
  • Were members of 5 official international collaborative networks

International collaboration and publications

Many individuals and groups in the Department publish articles, chapters, reports and papers that involve international collaboration. That collaboration can take the form of collaborative study and writing, or collaborative support of those writing outside the UK.

Across the July 2023 to June 2024 period, international writing collaboration led to:

  • 29 publications in total
  • 21 publications authored by international postgraduate researchers supported by academics in the Department
  • 8 publications authored by academics in the Department collaboratively working with international colleagues
  • 22 journal articles, 2 chapters, 1 conference paper, 1 working paper and 3 research reports

International collaboration included working with colleagues in Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Ecuador, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Oman, the Philippines, Qatar, South Africa, UAE, and the USA.
