Are you struggling to purchase basic food items?

We can help!

Graduate College can help you with basic food items in a number of ways:

  • Emergency Food Bags containing staples such as rice, instant noodles, pasta, breakfast bars, tinned vegetables, etc, and basic toiletries.
  • The Community Cupboard & Community Fridge are available for the postgraduate community (and staff) to donate unopened food items and toiletries which they do not want for the benefit of anyone who can use them. Those who are in need of the items can then take them. The cupboard is located in the Graduate College Social Hub (near the drinks making area) and is accessible 24 hours. It operates on a first-come-first-served basis, so if you are coming from off campus to access the cupboard we would recommend emailing us first so you don't arrive to find the cupboard is bare.
  • Supermarket Vouchers We have a limited number of these to help people who ae really struggling to re-stock their cupboards or to support people through a gap in funding - for example when waiting for funds from a longer term solution such as a grant/loan/bursary/other award.

Elsewhere on campus you can find:

  • The Chaplaincy Centre are also offering soup every Wednesday lunchtime for just £1
  • Free Sanitary Product vending machines are available around campus for both students and staff in the following accessible washrooms: Bowland North - B077, Health Innovation One - D15d5, LEC - C22, LUMS West Pav - WP C037, InfoLab21 - C09
  • Free food events 'Where's the Food?' taking place in each college throughout termtime - these are open to all students from any college, and are listed in the weekly MyLancaster newsletter and in the student news portal.

We do not offer bursaries or long-term support ourselves – we would direct you to the university’s central funding team for this https://portal.lancaster.ac.uk/ask/funding. The LOAF fund is a particularly good one to look at in the first instance.

If you are looking for more long term solutions, there are many opportunities for short-term work and paid roles on the ERS page https://temps.lancaster-university.co.uk/vacancies/vacancy-search-results.aspx – these roles are added to each week, so we recommend checking back regularly.

If you would like to have a conversation regarding your situation and the support available - either in person or via Teams – please get in touch at graduatecollege@lancaster.ac.uk or Call/Message via Teams
