Social Life at Lancaster University

There are plenty of opportunities to take a break from your studies and socialise in Graduate College, with weekly activities, a dedicated social space and even a bar.

Social space

Our recently refurbished social space includes a selection of popular box games as well as pool, darts and table tennis (ping pong). There are plenty of large tables where you can share meals as a group, and cosy sofa areas for informal and class gatherings. Lots of books have been donated by previous students, and you are welcome to read and borrow them from the shelves in the Hub. Academic books are available in the Quiet Study area.

The PG Board and College Community Assistants organise regular events for students that we advertise via social media and the weekly newsletter. Recent events include quiz nights, movie nights, a stress-buster evening, college breakfasts.

On the first Thursday of the month, the CCAs also host New Cafe - which is an opportunity for PGR Students to share their research, network with fellow postgraduates, and enjoy free pizza too!

Chocolate Fountain night at Graduate College

The Herdwick

Graduate College has its very own bar – the Herdwick – which can be found opposite the social space, in the square by the Porters’ Lodge.

The Herdwick has been featured in the Campaign for Real Ale's Good Beer Guide since 2003 and has by far the largest range of cask ales and real ciders on campus along with over 20 single malts whiskies and mead.

Curry lovers should also visit the bar on a Friday nights for the weekly curry night.

Each summer, the team from the Herdwick put on a Real Ale & Cider Festival in Barker House Farm. This event also includes live music, a craft ale bar, and tasty food to accompany it all. Keep your eyes on their Facebook Page for more details...
