Dr Daniela Heerdt is a researcher and consultant in the field of sport and human rights at the Asser Institute in The Hague, where she organizes a summer course on sport and human rights and provides legal advice to sports actors on how to embed human rights in their policies and practices.

The world of sport is currently at a crossroads: as awareness of human rights in sport in general and sporting events, in particular, is increasing, sports bodies have to react. While some acknowledge the need to embed human rights into policies and practices, others are hesitant to do so. This presentation will address the development of this movement, provide insights on some of the main challenges the movement is currently facing (abuse in sport, Qatar World Cup, and access to remedy) and finish with sharing ideas on how to make this movement sustainable.
