My research interests broadly encompass the use of technology in education. My PhD investigated the influence of mobile learning on the learner engagement of primary school children in outdoor settings, using a design-based research approach. The thesis concluded that appropriately-designed mobile learning interventions can promote emotional, behavioural and cognitive engagement, and can act as a bridge between technology and the natural environment, while simultaneously addressing the digital disconnect between teachers and technology.
My current interests are centred around exploring the notions of digital and mobile capital, a theme which emerged from my doctoral work, with a particular focus on empowerment.
