Medical students

Which degree is right for you?

Lancaster Medical School offers two MBChB programmes: our five-year Medicine and Surgery degree, and our six-year Medicine and Surgery with a Gateway Year degree.

Each degree has different requirements, but both follow the same selection process:

  • Meet the academic and non-academic requirements
  • Sit the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) in the year of your application. Last year's scores can be found here.
  • Attend a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
  • Complete a fitness to practise assessment

  • Medicine and Surgery

    Most qualification types are accepted | Predicted grades of AAB or above at A level | Applicants who meet our widening participation criteria may be eligible for a reduced offer | UK and Overseas applicants will be considered

  • Medicine and Surgery with a Gateway Year

    Limited qualification types are accepted | Predicted grades of ABB-ABC at A level | Applicants must meet our widening participation criteria in order to be eligible | Only UK applicants will be considered

May-September

  • Register for the UCAT and apply for bursaries or access arrangements
  • Book and sit the UCAT (testing runs from June until late September)
  • Begin preparing your UCAS application

October

  • Submit your UCAS application by 15th October
  • Complete the Initial Applicant Survey (IAS), which will be sent to you automatically following your application
  • Applicants may be asked to complete the Supplementary Information Form (SIF) at this stage

October- November

  • Applications are reviewed to determine eligibility
  • UCAT scores are received and applicant scores are ranked for invitation to interview
  • Applicants may be contacted to provide further information if necessary

December- March

  • We aim to send the majority of interview invitations out in December
  • Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) take place during January and February
  • Following interviews, applicants are ranked by MMI scores. Offers are made to the top scoring candidates
  • Unsuccessful applicants and those placed on the reserve list are notified

March- September

  • Offer holders are invited to attend an Offer Holder Event
  • Offer holders choose their firm and insurance choices
  • Work experience references are verified
  • Information is provided about accommodation, finance and registration
  • A Level results are released in August, with successful applicants confirmed onto the course
  • Qualification results are verified during this period
  • Welcome Week, Occupational Health and DBS information is sent following A Level results day
