How the College Works

Structure and Governance

Within Lonsdale College, staff and students work together to create a welcoming and supportive college community. The Junior Common Room Executive (JCR Exec) are an elected body who work closely with the Lonsdale staff team to represent students, support their interests and help make college life the best it can be.

Junior Common Room (JCR)

Lonsdale JCR Exec is made up of a group of students elected by students. They are here to represent student views, organise socials and campaigns and provide opportunities to get involved in events and activities taking place in the College. They also work closely with College Officers to ensure students have the best experience during their time at Lancaster University. The JCR Exec meet weekly as a team. The JCR Exec is part of the Lancaster University Students Union.

Senior Common Room (SCR)

The SCR is made up of members of University staff who are also members of Lonsdale College. Some Senior Members have a role in managing the College and form an integral part of College life by working closely with the JCR Exec and by contributing towards the intellectual and social experience of our students. Colleges are about being part of a community and this extends to staff as well as students.

Committees

The College Syndicate includes all members of the SCR and JCR Executive. Meeting once a year to oversee the running of the College, agree strategy and any constitutional amendments, Syndicate reports to the University Senate.

Please get in touch with the College Manager if you would like to attend any of our Syndicate Meetings.

Rules and discipline

The College is a community in which a large number of people live and work closely together. The Deanery exists to ensure all members can live, work and study in a safe environment which allows them to make the most of their time at Lancaster University.

Rules are applicable to all students, whether you live on campus or not. If you experience any difficulties with fellow students, please contact your Deanery to raise your concerns.

Alleged breaches of the rules will be investigated by the Deanery who will also decide on any sanctions to be applied. The most serious cases will be dealt with by the University Board of Discipline.

Failure to attend a summons without a reason will result in a fine.

The full procedure for the process and for any appeal may be found in the Student Discipline Regulations.

The Deanery would like to make all students aware of fines that will be applied if particular rules in the Residences and University Rules are broken.
