As part of the co-designed collaboration with Dallam School and Lancaster University, Geography teacher, Becky Shanley and Dr Suzi Ilic gave the environmental reins over to year 9. Students took part in the project 'Nature-Based solutions for our Coasts'. They investigated new environmental learning of their local coastline and explored the Our Future Coasts sites at Hest bank. Students workshopped solutions to help eroded sites of saltmarsh to regrow. Then, they had the chance to be change-makers in context! Using their learning, they created physical nature-based solutions, crafted of willow and hazel and put them in specific sites to restore a vital ecosystem and flood defence.

Ms Shanley said: "The opportunity to work with Lancaster University and the Morecambe Bay Curriculum team has been invaluable. It has allowed our students to go beyond learning about geographical issues in theory and instead work alongside people who are actively tackling those challenges. It has made their learning more relevant, more empowering and more connected to the place where they live."
