SEND Approach

Supporting learners who historically are more likely to experience nature-deprivation to access Morecambe Bay in educational, relevant and experiential ways. Accessibility, inclusion, care and communication are at the heart of this practice.

The following resources been designed by SEND colleagues for use in specialist provision but can also be used with children and young people in mainstream settings.

Nature Ninjas

Nature Ninjas is an educational initiative designed to empower students to connect with nature and environment through experiential, curriculum-linked learning. Using seasons, these resources combine science, geography, and citizenship. They integrate place-based outdoor exploration and nature-connection, using season linked activities and motivational sticker charts.

Nature Ninjas has been designed by the four teachers who make up the MBC SEND Working Group, who together have a total of 51 years of expertise in SEND education. Each feels passionately about the transformative effect of outdoor learning on confidence, curiosity, and resilience. Supported by community collaboration through the Morecambe Bay Curriculum, Nature Ninjas bridges academic, emotional, and physical development, helping all learners thrive through meaningful engagement with the natural world.

Each activity has been designed to be accessible for informal, semi-formal and formal learning.
