MBC Visit to Eden Project Cornwall

MBC visitors at Eden Project Cornwall

The MBC community was exclusively invited for this special visit by the Eden Project education team in Cornwall, with the aim of building collaborative relationships, learning about their engagement work, and contributing to initial education plans for Eden Project Morecambe. The latest amazing designs for the site at Morecambe were revealed and the group was also given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Rainforest Biome (including a choice of VIP experiences) and the Growing Point Nursery (where plants destined for Morecambe are already growing). The MBC visitors were even treated to a traditional Cornish Cream Tea!

The group stayed at two hotels in nearby Charlestown, a historic Georgian harbour that has featured in a variety of films and TV series, including the Cornish favourite, ‘Poldark’. The hotels were next to the sea and a few brave members made the most of it by taking early morning dips!

The visit was incredibly inspirational for all of us. We are super grateful to our lovely colleagues in the Eden Project education team for hosting us and providing a programme that was informative, meaningful and also lots of fun. The approaching arrival of Eden in Morecambe is beginning to feel real now and we are all looking forward to the exciting adventure ahead.

Thanks to everyone who joined us, brought huge energy and enthusiasm, and provided such joyful and positive feedback (a few examples below):

I have been really impressed and inspired by Eden’s mission and feel very confident that they want to deliver the very best for Morecambe.

I wanted to see the Eden Project to imagine what it would feel like for Morecambe. The presentation enabled me to visualise what our version would be. I feel inspired, positive and hopeful. It was great to be part of the trip; it was a wonderful opportunity.

I’d never visited Eden Project Cornwall & I wanted to find out more about their vision & mission, how these are realised in practice and how they might translate to EP Morecambe and link to the MBC.

And a final thanks to Simon from the National Education Nature Park for this brilliant poem:

The wonderful Morecambe Bay Curriculum Crew

Had a trip to a town that had quite the view.

6 hours away from the bay that they play in

The sea was still there for some to go swim in.

Rosemary the star was travel agent supreme

Organised the whole trip to flow like a dream.

To Eden we went to be awed by their biome

Inspiring ideas that then we can take home.

Exploring the rhythms of sun, moon and tides

Shown in pictures and sculptures with much more besides.

A community garden with planting divine

With a nod to our Eric called ‘bring me sunshine’

We return to our bay with our spirits up lifted

Thankful for this opportunity gifted.

Mindful movement in the Rainforest Biome
