Dr Robert Shone
Lecturer in Operational ResearchResearch Overview
My research interests include the modelling and optimisation of stochastic processes (e.g. queues, networks) with applications including transportation, logistics and healthcare. I am particularly interested in sequential decision problems which can be formulated as Markov decision processes (MDPs) and solved using techniques such as approximate dynamic programming, index heuristics, simulation optimisation and machine learning.
PhD Supervision Interests
I am interested in supervising PhD students whose research topics are related to one or more of the following areas: queueing theory, Markov decision processes, approximate dynamic programming, simulation optimisation, reinforcement learning.
