This webinar will consider several perspectives on the intersection of visual technology, space and place in higher education learning.

The first section, based on prior work by Katharina Lorenz and Brett Bligh, will examine a case study of Multi-Display Learning Spaces. The talk will focus, in particular, on the use of those spaces to support postgraduate students in Classics and Ancient Art History to explore alternative narratives for visual artefacts. The talk will emphasise how space and technology intersect to create a different kind of place—viewed by students as more reminiscent of an art gallery than a standard seminar room—and the implications for pedagogy and student experience. The second section, based on prior work by Natasa Lackovic, will consider when and how to consider the visuality, materiality and spatiality or place-based situatedness in/of researching technology in higher education, its strength and challenges.

Speakers:

• Professor Katherina Lorenz, University of Giessen, Germany

• Dr Brett Bligh (Chair), Dr Natasa Lackovic, Lancaster University, UK
