Dr Anastasia Ushakova

Lecturer in Biostatistics (Health Informatics)

Research Overview

I am an applied statistician currently based at Lancaster University's Medical School Centre for Health Informatics, Computing and Statistics, as a Lecturer in Biostatistics (Health Informatics). I am interested in cross-disciplinary research that allows for pushing boundaries of not just a single field but a few. Though my research expertise are mostly in the application and development of methods for big data (routinely collected, longitudinal and time-series data), I have an emerging record of research collaborations and impact in social and health sciences, psychology and statistics . Most recently I have been working in areas of mental health, including collaboration with local NHS trust to support their efforts to improve care provision using data science. As a result of this I started to expand my research experience towards practices informed by lived experiences and mixed methods research. As part of my work, I also look at patterns of learning in young readers together with researchers in literacy and psychology by exploring big datasets arriving from digital learning supplements. My research has been published in top journals in statistics, social science, psychology and health and has been funded by ESRC, EPSRC, MRF, NWCR and NIHR.
